Portfolio & self assessment

A portfolio self-assessment provides students with an opportunity to evaluate their readiness for graduate practice. Students are required to conduct a self-assessment of using the following Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia (NMBA) discipline specific professional standards:
Codes of professional conduct
� Professional boundaries
� Registered nurse standards for practice, or Midwifery competency standards, and
Codes of ethics

The portfolio self assessment has four components:
A summary statement assessing your progress with preparation for graduate practice. What is your personal understanding of your discipline specific knowledge, clinical reasoning, problem-solving, teamwork, research and communication skills?
Summary Statement
Assesses progress with preparation for graduate practice. (5%)

A comprehensive, clear, and concise statement that demonstrates an insightful understanding of discipline specific and personal progress with all of the following skills:
– clinical reasoning
– problem-solving
– teamwork
– research
– communication

2. A summary table or paragraph of select NMBA professional standards that you consider reflect areas of personal strength in professional development, supported by a statement of what was learned, competency gained, or skill achieved, with examples from practice.
Areas of Strength – Identifies and critically reflects on areas of personal strength in relation to the NMBA professional standards. Provides specific personal examples. (5%)

Exceptional, clear, concise identification of areas of personal strength in relation to at least two NMBA professional standards.
The answer is supported with critical reflection and considerable insight into a judicious selection of relevant personal examples of strengths in learning, competence and skill.

3. A summary table or paragraph of select NMBA professional standards that you consider are your priorities for further development, supported by a statement of what areas of learning, competency or skill you intend to develop, with examples.
Areas requiring further development – Identifies and critically reflects on areas that require further development in relation to the NMBA professional standards. Provides specific personal examples. (5%)

4. A summary statement of strategies to prepare for AHPRA registration and to personally prepare for the transition to new graduate practice.
Strategies – Identifies strategies to prepare for AHPRA registration.
Outlines strategies to prepare for new graduate practice. (5%)
Exceptional, clear and concise identification and prioritisation of strategies to prepare for AHPRA registration.
Outlines realistic practical strategies to personally prepare for the transition to new graduate practice, with considerable insight into personal expectations and perceptions.
Clear identification and prioritisation of strategies to prepare for AHPRA registration.

Presentation and Referencing (5%)
The marking criteria and standards have been developed to guide you through the assessment process. Please read the criteria and standards carefully. There is a word limit of 750 words.
Outstanding, fluent, writing style and use of language.
Consistently accurate referencing, with all references correctly given, both in text and in final reference list according to APA style. A minimum of four references is provided and consistently used to support all answers. Excellent writing style and use of language. No errors in spelling, grammar, punctuation or writing style.
